It's only a little after 9pm as I'm writing this, but I could totally go to bed right now! I'm in the middle of my second week of substitute teaching and I have to say...subbing is not an easy job. I've been enjoying the experience (mostly), but I've also come home tired every day! I spent a lot of time grading math papers yesterday (and if you know me...that might not be a good idea!). There was no calculator and no teacher's edition, so I had to grade them the old fashioned way!
Also, my supervisors are going to a conference, so I'm also playing "nanny" for the rest of the week. Hopefully everyone will be in one piece when they come home on Monday.
As for me, I've gotta finish up an ESL lesson because tomorrow is village day. I will teach two classes and hopefully go home with one of my students. Please pray that I have the opportunity to talk about the Most Important Things. I'm excited and also nervous about how to interact for this first "meeting".
Funny story time: Last names in Armenia end in the syllable "yon". Today at school, we were reading the story of Paul Bunyan and one of the Armenian kids asked if Paul was Armenian because of his last name! Oh man, I got a kick out of that one. The sad part is, I had to explain SO many things to the kids about Paul Bunyan, I'm not sure they even enjoyed the story. (what is logging, what is an axe, what is the Grand Canyon, etc).

Yep I feel retarded! Your very intelligent friend just figured out I can leave comments on this page! Wow! All that time of reading the itty-bitty little box on the side "comment" never struck a bell in my head! Anyway I look forward daily to reading your posts! I love you and and very concerned about YOU grading math papers!
Sounds like you are being a teacher anyway even after all the warnings. The upside is that you will always remember those kids because they challenged you.
love you Dad
I had no idea that even something as simple as the story of Paul Bunyan could become subject to culture craziness. That's really funny.
You've got a lot going on in your life, but all of it sounds like good worthwhile experiences. Just be sure you drink lots of water and have plenty of sleep. That always helps when tackling so much. I'm sure you are a great teacher of ESL because you are so motivated about that. Also, you are a fabulous "sub" teacher, too. Hope today was a wonderful day. There are always many ways to count our blessings. Wish I could be there! Love, MOM
