An American Holiday....

I spent Thanksgiving Day at my supervisors' apartment helping with the preparations. We had turkey (we bought the only one in the store!), dressing, mashed potatoes, corn pudding, carrot and raisin salad, Waldorf salad, bread, and of course green bean casserole (which I made....and I made homemade french fried onions to go on top!). We also had the Brown family specialty (sticky buns) and chocolate meringue pie. We were going to have coconut cake, but when I opened the fridge at one point in the afternoon, it fell out onto the floor!! Ooops!

I missed being with loved ones at home on this holiday and I missed just sitting around watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on tv. However, I have to count my blessings on this special day.

I'm thankful for....
Supervisors that have totally taken me in.
An amazing family back home that I love so much.
My wonderful Berrik who constantly encourages me.
Faithful friends and prayer partners.
Internet at my apartment.
Skype and facebook chat!!!
Glimpses of beauty in this country--snow capped mountains, beautiful fruit
My ESL students' smiling faces
God's amazing grace, forgiveness, and constant patience with me.
Pictures.
The times we sing American songs at church.
Learning phrases in Armenians songs at church. My favorite--Thank you, thank you, thank you Jesus.
The small amount of Armenian I know.
My citizenship in America.
An even greater citizenship in the Kingdom of God.
CNN. (the only english station I get)
The opportunity to be here, even on days when it's difficult.
Tuesday nights....volleyball.

I know how hard it is to be away from family on holidays, but it makes things much easier when you have wonderful people who let you be part of their family as well.

I had a great time at Louise and Marsha's place. (They say hi and Thanksgiving!!) The okra turned out well. It tasted better than it looked. Everyone seemed to like it. We ate lots of good food, played wiffle ball, ate some more, enjoyed sitting and chatting around the fire pit, ate more, and played some games.

I hope you have a great friday.

I'm so glad you were with wonderful people on this day even if it wasn't your family and friends in America. I'm thankful and proud that you realize all the blessing we have that we sometimes take for granted. The fruit salads were unusual were our menu (except for Mema's cranberry dish as was the chocolate pie, and what are sticky buns? We are thankful for YOU and really missed you today. But we are truly thankful for C and G and their hospitality.

I thought about you yesterday as we were driving. I said a prayer that you would have a good Thanksgiving. It sounds like you did! How crazy and hard it would be to teach different subjects and grades at once. I can't even imagine! I was a little sad when I read about the coconut cake - I love all things coconut! I love reading your posts. I also love reading your comments and seeing how many people love you and are supporting you. Miss you and love you!
