I am taking 6 hours of language study a week. 2 hours, 3 times a week for 6 weeks is the plan. My tutor teaches at the medical university where she teaches Armenian to foreign students. So, she’s a professional teacher and she is used to teaching Americans. Sometimes the language learning gives me this sort of face ----->
I am learning to see the beauty around me. I noticed it a couple of days ago when I strolled through the outdoor market. The alley ways are filled with brightly colored fruits and vegetables (some I have never seen before). The air smells of fish, coffee, and fresh bread. The people are busy doing whatever it is they do. So, amidst the old Soviet buildings, trash, cats, and dirty streets, I can also find a glimmer of beauty in this part of the city.
I had the opportunity to lead a study at a home in the village. This gave me a lot of joy because I felt like I was actually doing something! Also, one of the sisters translated for me---and she is really not a translator--she only knows some English. The Father really used her, so that was great to be a part of.
Apparently there was an earthquake a few days ago. I didn’t feel it or know anything about it until one of the brothers asked me if I felt the “air squeak”. After a LOT of confusion…and then loud laughter after I figured it out…I was absolutely shocked! No, I didn’t feel the air squeak and I also didn’t feel the earthquake! I still laugh just thinking about that little interlude.

Your pics are way cute. I can almost picture the mixture in those alley ways from places that we have been. Your excitement shows in your face and words. We're praying for focused attention as you study and also as you practice the language with both adults and children. Have you seen the local cartoons? Love, MOM

We think of you often and of the people as well! Love you!! Laura
Wow, with all those hours studying, you'll be speakin' Armenian in no time!!
I love the fact that you're finding beauty in the little things. That's one of the things I love about you. ;)
That's so exciting that you got to lead a study in the village. It won't be long till you won't need a translator! With the work you're doing in the villages, the company should be able to start a newwork there in no time!! (Is that the right way to say it?) ;)
As someone who lives with earthquakes and often doesn't feel them, I love your story here. If I'd heard the phrase "air squek" I would've thought something completely different.
Great photos by the way. You are beautiful. The top one looks like you're looking at the title of your post. Ha!
Love ya,
Berrik
