Open my Eyes.....

I was really blessed on Sunday.

Hayk (Baby Narek's dad) is very musical. He plays the saxaphone and also two interesting Armenian instruments--the Shvi(sh-vee)and the Duduk (doo-dook). He teaches these instruments at an institute for the blind. One of his students visited on Sunday and played the Shvi. Almost as soon as he started to play, my eyes filled with tears. Apparently, it was a familiar tune so Gretchen began to tell me the words. The song talked about the goodness of God, the strength of God, and how helps us to stand. There was something SO beautiful about watching this young man play. I can't describe what it did for my heart. Definitely the highlight of my Sunday.

Check out these links to learn more about the instruments:

I hope that my eyes will always be open
....to see the hurting, to find ways to serve, to walk through open doors, to discern when to speak.

The music nerd in me really enjoyed this post and the links it provided. You should get some video of these instruments being played at your church. Then post them on here. It'd be really cool.

What is the Shiv sitting on? Those instruments sound like they could be ones fom the book of Psalm. What a beautiful service. Isn't it wonderful that all peoples can sing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus".
