This and That.....

In response to your comments....
No, I did not give the taxi driver my phone number.
No, he was not speaking English. (which means I understood Armenian! yay!)
And
Yes, I promise to be careful.

I cannot wait for spring and summer to arrive. I go through these same emotions in America, too, but they are much more strong here. Something here that really annoys me is that when it gets dark, girls have to be at home. Which means that, unless they take a taxi home, there are no late night hangouts at my place. They always tell me that this city is safe, but yet their family insists that they come home at "such and such time". So, all that to say I'm looking forward to longer and warmer days. I am also ready to leave the world of turtlenecks and long johns.

I had no translation today at chrch. That was not very fun. I also had the task of keeping the MK's quiet and still. I kinda wanted to squirm and talk like them. I found myself wishing that I could listen to a sermon on my ipod. I knew the sermon was about "sin" but that's about all I understood. I am learning more of the songs, but if they are fast, I'm toast. Well, let's backtrack, I'm reading more, but I still don't always understand what I'm singing. Sometimes we sing a song that's to the same tune as "My country tis of thee".....it just makes me giggle and want to salute.

We have workout equipment here at our building. After English classes, some of the girls have been staying to workout....they call it "shaping" or "fitness". I correct them time after time to call it "exercise" or "working out", but it remains to be "shaping". I've also become some sort of an expert in the realm of fitness. I lead them in stretches and give advice such as "drink a lot of water after exercising". When I told them about the water, one girl looked at me in disbelief because she thought drinking a lot of water would make her fat.

I have been in this country for 4 months now and there are days that I walk outside and think, "Wow. I live here. That's weird." There are just those moments of strange realization that are unexplainable. It's just kind of a neutral, factual, sort of thought that comes up every now and then.

I'm looking forward to continuing to build relationships with local girls. I'm hoping to get together with a few of them next Sunday. Women here don't get the chance to just hang out and be goofy very often, so they loved our last get togther. My new apartment will have better seating, so i'm excited about that. May He give me a bigger heart for the young ladies here and more opportunities to serve them!

What are you currently thankful for...I can just see you in church along with the squirming children. Maybe they didn't understand the sermon either. Where's children's church? Tell us all about your new apartment and items you'll need to buy for it. Is it almost 6 months if you count time in VA? Keep up the vewry interesting blog entries!

I LOVE it that you're the "shaping" expert! That's hilarious. And, I also feel ya on the long-john-turtleneck situation. It's not so fun. If it would quit snowing, I think that would be a step in the right direction...

Hey Jaclyn!

They call it "shaping" here in Ukraine too! Congratulations on being the "shaping" expert! Hope the days get longer soon! I'm ready for more hours of sunlight too!

I had one of those strange moments of realization just last week. As I was driving over the Golden Gate Bridge (which I've now done quite a few times) and I just thought "Huh. I live in California. That's weird." I've been here almost 2 1/2 years and I still get that funny feeling!

Anonymous has a good point. With your 2 months in Virginia, you've made it through the first 1/4 of your journey, man.... er.... woman.

I am so proud of what you have done and so proud to call you a friend! You are such an amazing person, and I know you are going to leave a big impact where you are. Even if it is just making them more healthy by drinking that fattening water!!!

I thought you should know the ladies in my office love hearing your stories! Every time you post a new one I read it to them. They pray for you as well! Today they laughed really hard and wanted to know if the Taxi driver was cute? I told them Berrik may not appreciate that! But I said I would ask anyway!
