Marinka....

That's the name of the salon where I got my hair cut today. I got my hair cut at our meeting in Greece, but it's already grown out and has been looking pretty shabby. My boss made the appointment for me where she has been going and she planned to take me, help me explain what I wanted, and then I would take a taxi back home.

Well....we experienced a slight automobile malfunction this morning, so I had to do the salon thing alone.

I put on my
brave pants, asked for a few word clarifications from my friends and called a taxi. This was my first time to have my hair cut at a real Armenian salon. Other times, friends had trimmed it. I was a little nervous that I wouldn't be able to explain myself so, I started off the conversation with "Excuse me, but I'm learning Armenian. If we don't understand each other, I will call my friend." Thankfully, he seemed to understand me!

Here's how the process went:
Get my hair washed by the hair washing lady
Tell the hairdresser (
named Ararat) what I want
He
cut, and cut, and cut each layer very carefully
Go
back and get my hair washed by the hair washing lady
Ararat blow drys
each section of hair very very carefully
Finished product..
.and I liked it!
Pay the cashier at the front 2000 dram!!!
(less than $6.00)

I must say, I was very pleased with Ararat and I was very proud of myself for communicating what I wanted!

Yessssss.

Sorry! No picture of the new do today.
Check back soon!
